It's Beginning to Look A lot Like Christmas

Evie got to see her first real snow this past weekend. Sunday, we got about 4 or 5 inches. We stood with her by the window to show her, but she wasn't too interested. Sean on the other hand is very excited about the snow. He said it just makes it feel more like Christmas! We have 3 Christmas countdowns going on too. Sean tells me every day how much closer we are to the big day!!

Sean is beyond brilliant. An amazing quality that I'm sure will come in handy throughout his life. However, it's a tough quality to parent. Especially since he's extra stubborn too. I notice that if I tell him not to do something, he'll do part of it or push, just a little bit, so that he's still getting his way. For example, he kept saying "butt" and "booty" and "fart". Cute at first, but it got to be obnxious and a little inappropriate, so I told him I didn't want him saying "butt" at all. He was not sounding very nice. So, he replies with, "But... ... ... I love you". I told him he was pushing his luck and he said, "But, I didn't say butt, I just said but, like but, I love you". So, I sent him to time out. Any one who doesn't know Sean may think I was reading too far into what he was doing, but anyone who knows him knows EXACTLY what he was doing. He doesn't like to be wrong, EVER. And, he makes sure to let you know when you're wrong. Another example...a few months ago we were driving and Sean was watching Mary Poppins. I started singing, "Seany makes the world shine bright". He said, "no, I don't". I said, "it's just a figure of speech. it means you make me happy". He said, "well, in the movie, Burt really means that Mary makes the sun shine". I told him no, he told me yes. We agreed to disagree. Today Sean & Daddy are at the Detroit Opera House watching Mary Poppins, so on Tuesday, Sean & I watched the movie together to brush up on his songs before the big day. The "Mary makes the world shine bright" part came on & sure enough, the sky was gray until she came on the scene & then the sun came out. Very sarcastically Sean looked at me & said, "so, you were wrong, right?". Ahhh, this child... Too too smart and way too stubborn. He's still very sweet, loving & compassionate though. It makes him happy to send his friends letters in the mail. Especially Scott who's away at basic training for the USCG. Daddy had a meeting he was nervous about the other day, so he asked Sean to pray for him at 4:00. Around 11:00, Sean popped up & said, "do we have a clock?". I asked him if he needed to know the time. He replied, "yeah, I need to pray for my daddy at 4:00". Such a little lovie... :) Sean went for his first cleaning on 12/04/10. He was anxious at first, but did a great job. He was super excited to get his "goodie bag" afterwards. Mostly the stickers that said "great check up". And you would've thought the toothbrush was a toy! Speaking of toy, he asked santa for Uno Moo for Christmas. "Santa" sent him a video message from the north pole telling him that he needs to take care of his sister & work on listening to his parents. Smart guy, that santa... ;)

Evie is growing up fast. She's a big monsoserous. :) Her 6 month appt was on 12/03/10. She's 27 1/2 in (97th percentile) and 18 1/2 lbs (90th percentile) and her head is 18" (100th+ percentile). HEAD!!! ;) She's growing & meeting milestones beautifully. She sits up on her own for long periods of time. She even turns from sitting to try & crawl. Not successfully yet, but it's only a matter of time! She waves, says "mumma" and "dadda" (mumma first though ;), babbles and screams as soon as you try to put her down & walk away. She thinks she's the boss. She growls if you don't move fast enough, especially when you're feeding her. They tell us at church that she's the best baby in the nursery, always smiley & happy. At least she's really good for other people! ;) She plays shy baby, by turning her head into my shoulder when people talk to her. I love that! She loves jumping in her jenny jumper. Or trying to jump out of your arms if you're holding her. She still LOVES her brother. He makes her laugh & smile all the time. Her bottom gums are very swollen, so those two front teeth should pop out any time.

Both kids love dancing with us in the kitchen while listening to Christmas music or the ipod. We went to Bedtime Stories with Santa last weekend. Aunt Annette, Connor, Ella & Grandma came too. Sean got to play games with Mrs. Claus, take a picture with Santa (Evie joined in on this too & did great!), have cookies & juice & get a present from santa. Family Christmas was this past Sunday, 12/12/10. Sean did great singing on stage. No fights this time! ;) Evie was in the nursery slideshow this year.

Only 9 more days til Christmas!!

Thankful

As we approach Thanksgiving, I'm reminded of EVERYTHING we have to be thankful for. Jason & I are blessed to have each other. We love each other very much and we're happier than we've ever been. Our kids are blessed to have two parents who love each other so much. They're blessed because we love them so much too. They have grandparents who will stop at nothing to make sure they have everything their little hearts desire. They're blessed to have grandparents who love spending time with them. We're blessed with a church that preaches the truth and makes learning about God fun for Sean & Evie. We have an amazing small group and each member is like family to us. We have good friends who love & care for us. We have a home, jobs, food, clothing - every need is met & then some. So thankful!

My 30th birthday was 11/07. Grandma came over to spend the night on 11/06, so Daddy & I could go out & celebrate with friends. Daddy & Sean had been very "mysterious" the previous week. On Sunday, I woke up to a treasure hunt with treasure maps. Sean was so excited. All week, he kept telling me stuff like "It's not like we got you any prizes or anything. Maybe just like junk or something and who likes junk". Then, he'd put his hand by his face & whisper to Jason, "Good thing I told her that!". He's so fun.

On 11/09 - we went to see Veggie Tales Live - Sing Yourself Silly with Grandma, Aunt Annette & Connor. The boys had a blast & Sean sang every song. We'll have to write & tell them that they forgot to sing the bunny song though. ;)

On Friday, 11/12, Evie started puking & puked 12 times in 4 hours. It was awful to watch a little baby throw up like that. We were hoping it wasn't the stomach flu, but it was & it made it's way through our house (and then some...sorry Grandma ;). Thank God for grandparents though; I think they're the reason Sean dodged it. He stayed the night with Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry on Friday night, then with Grandma & Puppa on Saturday night & he was with Grandpa Jim lots of time in between. By the time Evie was better, Daddy had gotten it, so she went to hang out with Grandma & Puppa while he was sick. I got it on Sunday. Never want to do that again!

Aunt Mary & Bella stayed the night on 11/17 while we went to Daddy's work party. Evie exploded on her (how nice...). PC&D reimbursed us for childcare that night and Jason said to me, "Mary should be paying us to watch the kids. It's good birthcontrol!". ;)

Both Sean & Evie are growing up & changing so fast. Sean uses words like "frustrating" and "distracting" and he uses them in the right context. He told me that "s" makes a "sssss" sound not a "shhhh" sound, so his name should be "sawn", not "shawn". He's doing very well at school. He loves practicing his letters and he loves reading books. He's beyond intelligent and one downfall to that is the anxiety that comes with overanalyzing everything. He wants to understand everything. He overthinks things and worries about stuff. Poor kid has my genes. On a brighter note, he loves giving hugs & is always saying "I love you". He's my lovie. :) Then there's Evie, our little princeoserous. She lets out a whail if you take something out of her hands or wipe her face while she's eating or go to change her diaper when she's hungry or lay her down & walk away. We're seeing quite the personality develop. She smiles a lot. She loves watching Sean, she loves listening to Daddy sing and just recently she started playing with my hair. She loves playing with soft plastic books. She scoots backwards on her belly if you lay her on the ground. We can't leave her in her bumbo alone anymore because she can twist out of it. Daylight savings messed up her sleeping schedule (that and getting sick), so she doesn't sleep past 6:00-6:30. Is it March yet? ;)

We're looking forward to a long weekend, getting together with family & decorating for Christmas.

Freeze Tag

Sometimes I wish I could just freeze the kids where they're at right now. But, if I freezed Evie now, we'd miss out on all the cool stuff I know is coming. And, knowing Sean, eventhough it's hard to believe, I'm sure we haven't seen the best from him yet. So, although time is flying, I guess I'll let it keep going. ;)

I'm not going to try & recap the last couple weeks day by day. I need to get back to blogging weekly. But, I'll try to highlight some things we did & update what's going on with the kids.

The kids are blessed with amazing grandparents. I could write something every day about how often they talk to & see their grandparents. How much their grandparents do for them, how much they love them, how proud they are of them. I know that one day Sean & Evie will read this and although they'll already know the HUGE part their grandparents play in their lives, I want them to know how blessed they are.

Sean amazes us every day. He can write his name, he can write all of his letters, he's eager to know what every word means, he's always asking questions. And, he constantly blows our minds with stuff he says & does. Last night, as we were in the drive thru for an ice cream, he rolled down the back window & said, "Hi!" to the girl getting the ice cream. She laughed & said hi. He told us that he didn't say hi to the girl who took our order, so he thought he'd say hi to that girl. He talks to everyone & probably makes a lot of people's day! Last Saturday, we walked into church & one of the greeters said, "Hi Sean. Wow you've really gotten tall!". He replied, "Well, that's because I turned 4, did you know that? I got a baby sister. Did you meet my baby sister? Her name is Evie Loretta." The greeter said, "How old is your baby sister?" and Sean, without missing a beat said, "She's 4 months." I couldn't believe it. I thought for sure he'd say zero or ask me for the answer, but no. He knew. We went to the cidermill with his teachers & the kids from his class. I also got to be a part of his Harvest Party at school. I love watching him interact with his "peers". He's a really good boy. Another cool thing and he'll probably say I'm crazy one day for writing this, but he only wants me when he has to poop. I love it. I love hearing, "No, I want my mumma to help me." We sit & tell stories & laugh. It's some of the best time we spend together. I don't want to forget it because one day, he'll shut the bathroom door, want his privacy & not want my help. For now, I'll take advantage of the time he wants to spend with me, even if it's while he's on the toilet. ;) He loves being read to. We read 3-5 books a day, sometimes the same book 2 or 3 times.

Evie is really changing. On 10/11, she rolled over from her back to her belly for the first time. Tonight, she rolled from her back to her belly & then to her back again for the first time. She just kept rolling until she hit something. She won't sit still! Kind of makes me miss immobile baby! She wiggles constantly, always wanting to jump & walk. She'll growl at you or scream if she's not getting her way. I didn't think this started at 5 months. ;) She's always been stingy with her laughs out loud, but recently she's been laughing at everything. I love that sound! She still loves to be danced with, mostly to Billy Joel songs. :)

We had a great Halloween weekend. Paige spent the night on Friday & we carved pumpkins. We made chili for Chili Fest at Maranatha & Paige's Delicious Chili took 3rd place! We had small group on Saturday night. Sunday we went to church & then Sean went bowling. He got to dress up in his costume & trick-or-treat there. We went out to Uncle Mike & Aunt Nicole's for trick-or-treating that night. Grandma, Puppa, Grandpa Jim, Aunt Mary & Scott were there too. Andy got to come with us this year. She was a butterfly. ;)

Being proactive

On one hand, I haven't blogged in 3 weeks. On the other hand, I'm blogging before the harrassment starts. :)

09/17 - Happy Birthday Grandpa Jim! Evie & I went to lunch with Grandpa Jim & Ms. Stephanie for Grandpa's birthday. Afterwards, Grandpa picked up Sean and Sean took him to the park. Sean likes to do for others what he'd like done for him ;). I made dinner for Daddy & Grandpa & they hung out with with kids while I went to dinner with some friends. 09/18 - Happy Birthday Aunt Annette! Sean and I went to Dodge Park for the baby memorial walk in memorial of Aubrianna Bishop. It was rainy most of the walk, but Sean was a trooper. We walked through the woods together, telling stories about the big bad wolf. It was awesome Mommy/Sean time. :) That night me, Daddy, Sean & Evie went to hang out with Connor & Ella while Aunt Annette & Uncle Marc went out to dinner for her birthday. 09/19 - Today was Sean's first day of bowling. Evie & I went to church and then met Daddy & Sean at the bowling alley. Sean bowled an 83!! That afternoon we went to Angelina & Brianna's birthday party. 09/22 - Sean had his 4 year old check up and Evie had her 4 month check up today. Both had to get shots. :( Sean was 42 lbs and 42", estimated to be 6'2" when he's 18. His eyes, ears, urine, hemoglobin, everything came back normal. Praise God for healthy kids!!! Evie was 16 lbs 1.5 oz & 26". She's the size of an average 7 month old!!! While Dr. Berry was talking to me about her, she laid on the table, grabbed her feet & started putting them in her mouth. He said, "Wow, babies usually don't start doing that until 6 months!". She always shows off at the doctor! ;) Evie & Daddy stayed home from church that night because she still wasn't feeling good. Sean got 5 shots and still managed to play at the park with Grandpa Jim, play with Grandma after work & go to church with me that night. Ms. Lisa said he was an angel too. 09/23 - Aunt Susie went to South Carolina, so both kids went to the school for the morning and then Grandpa Jim picked up Sean & Ms. Christie picked up Evie. Grandpa dropped Sean off at the Mach's in the afternoon and we stayed for dinner when I went to pick them up. 09/24 - We went to the Mach's for small group. It was our first time doing a study since Evie was born. She did great, but started to want to be home around 7:30. We went home & Daddy took Sean to Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry's to spend the night. 09/25 - We went to Father Murray's to visit Great Gram & listen to Mr. Barney sing. Afterwards we went to Michael's, Toys R Us & Sam's with Grandma while Daddy & Puppa went golfing. Grandma & Sean love Toys R Us - I think it's their favorite store. Grandma came home with us after to play with Sean & help with Evie til Daddy got home. 09/26 - Today we celebrated Evie's Dedication & Sean's 4th birthday with lots of family & friends. Of course I have to list everyone who joined us: Grandma, Puppa, Grandpa Jim, Grandma Sue, Grandpa Larry, Uncle Mike, Aunt Nicole, Austin, Livie, Max, Jackson, Mikey, Aunt Mary, Scott, Uncle Scott, Sarah, Josh, Paige, Aunt Annette, Uncle Marc, Connor & Ella, Uncle Marty, Aunt Val, Alex & Nathan, Amanda, Rory, Aiden & Liam, Sean's friend Amanda ;), Mr. Barney, Ms. Cheryl & Mr. Doug, Ms. Christie, Evan, Sydney, Katelyn & Chase, Mr. Bob & Ms. Betty, Ms. Jean, Aunt Sally, Uncle Billy, Aunt Debbie, Steven, Brian and Ms. Jo. Wow - we are abundantly blessed!!! We had an amazing church service and then lunch at Big Jacks BBQ. We spent the evening opening cards & gifts - Sean loved it (of course!!). 09/28 - Grandma & Puppa came over for dinner. Sean put on a magic show with his new fushigi ball. Evie was having a crabby night, so we finished the night dancing in the kitchen while listening to the ipod. Love those times. :) 09/29 - We met Ms. Amanda & Liam for breakfast at Burger King. Afterwards, Ms. Kim, Carter, Chase & Grandpa Jim came over. Sean & Carter played while Evie & Chase slept & ate. Ahhh, it's good to be a baby! Me, Sean and Evie went to Target to spend some of Sean's birthday money. I picked out some clothes for him, he picked out a Cars tire fishing game. We finished the night at church. 09/30 - Aunt Susie was still in SC, so Grandpa Jim hung out with Sean after school and Evie went to Ms. Christie's. After work, I met Daddy at the Mach's for dinner & to pick up the kids. 10/01 - After we dropped Sean off at school, Evie & I went to visit Daddy at work. She was an angel. She smiled & showed off. I gave her & bubba and then we headed to the mall to meet Aunt Nicole, Mikey, Ms. Jessica & Jace. While we were at Crazy 8's, both Evie & Jace pooped. No changing tables in sight. So, we changed them in a fitting room, side by side. They slept while we ate lunch, so I forgive them. :) 10/02 - We went to breakfast & then the kids hung out with daddy while I went to get a manicure with Aunt Mary. When I got home we got ready & then met Grandma, Puppa, Aunt Mary, Scott, Uncle Mike, Aunt Nicole & kids for family pictures with Ms. Stefanie at Stoney Creek. All the weather leading up to this day was decent and all the days since have been progressively nicer, but this day was cold & rainy. Sean & Evie were ANGELS though. Evie just likes being outside. Sean held the perfect smile while Ms. Stefanie walked around, trying to get a good shot of Evie. I was so proud of them!! 10/03 - I went to north campus to teach, so Daddy took the kids to church & bowling. That night Grandma & Puppa came over to play. Sean re-enacted the "Supercalafrajalisticexpealadocious" scene from Mary Poppins (his favorite song at the moment). He's hilarious. 10/05 - Evie & I went to visit Ms. Debi & take her dinner. When we got home, Grandpa Jim & Sean had gotten the outdoor Halloween decorations out. Sean told me that he finally saw the witch that flies into the tree's face. He said, it's not scary, it's just wood! We took a few walks this day, to see decorations around the neighborhood & just to get outside. The weather was beautiful & Evie loves being outside. Sean called Grandma & asked her to come over to see the Halloween stuff. Grandma came over & brought Sean a key to her house. It's a Charlie Brown key & she was nice enough to attach it to a whistle. Thanks Grandma!!! ;) 10/06 - Grandpa Jim took Liam & Sean to the park. Again beautiful weather and the boys just love each other. Sean LOVES his friends and wishes they could be with him all the time! We took dinner to Uncle Marty because he had knee surgery & Sean played with Alex & Nathan before church. 10/08 - Evie & I went to visit Ms. Stephanie & Brooke. Ms. Cathy & Dominic are here from PA & they came by to visit us too. We went to the Mach's to celebrate Sydney's birthday & Sean is spending the night with Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry.

Sean LOVES school and is writing his name with ease. I love listening to him perform songs he learns there. His bus has never moved off the green light on the behavioral chart. We are so proud of him! Evie started vegetables on 09/22. We started with carrots, then sweet potatoes, then squash & now we're on peas. She's loved them all!! She's such a good baby. She's a little stingy with the laughing out loud, but Sean's usually good at getting her to do it. She LOVES watching him.

Do you want to be late or not?

Sean thinks he's slick. Jason asked him to help pick up books to which he replied, "I'm eating my raisins. Do you want me to poop well or not?". I told Sean to pick up his room so we could leave to which he replied, "I'm a very slow cleaner. Do you want to be late?". Seriously, this kid is too smart! Evie has discovered her hands, feet & voice this week! I'm sure she always knew they were there, but she's really learning how to use them. She loves grabbing her feet when they're "naked". She also likes listening to & talking to Sean. He's her favorite person (next to me of course ;). In his words, he's her hero! Awww...

09/01 - Happy 1st birthday Ella!!! We took the kids swimming at St. Clair Shores. They LOVED it. Sean amazed us both by jumping in, not plugging his nose, swimming by himself, etc. He was a little fish. Evie kicked her legs and people watched. 09/02 - Sean & Evie went to Ms. Christie's house to play with the kids while Aunt Susie had a meeting at church. They spent the afternoon with her. That night Sean spent the night with Paiger at Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry's. 09/03 - Evie came with me to get my hair cut. She wasn't too thrilled about sitting in her carseat all that time. Thankfully a nice stylist who didn't have any customers at the time held her. :) Afterwards we went to visit Ms. Jessica & Jace. That night me, daddy, Sean & Evie went to putt putt and then out to dinner. 09/04 - We met Grandma for breakfast. Sean does not like certain food textures & if something feels weird in his mouth, he gags & throws up. Well, Grandma gave him a bite of her pancake & it was crispy around the edges. 2 minutes later, she was in the bathroom with him cleaning up puke. Ahhh, the joys!! That afternoon we met Aunt Paula, Uncle Dan, Great Gram, Grandma & Aunt Mary for lunch. Afterwards, we went out to Nichole's house to play with all the kids. It was like we were running a daycare!! ;) How cool though that most of my friends have kids my kids' ages. When we came home, Grandma picked Sean up for a sleepover. 09/05 - Sean & Grandma stayed up too late & woke up way too early, so they missed church. I'm going to have to put a stop to these wild parties if they start missing church! ;) Grandma dropped Sean off at coney where we took Kiara to lunch for her birthday. We had dinner at Grandma & Puppas with Aunt Mary, Scott, Uncle Mike & Max. 09/06 - Daddy & I moved the rooms around. Sean & Evie are in our old bedroom & we're in his. Grandpa Jim took Sean to the Maranatha Labor Day picnic. We finished the night with swimming. :) 09/07 - We met Grandpa Jim at Walmart to get Sean's school supplies. That night, we went to Sean's "meet the teacher" night at the school. He was so excited & very fascinated with the behavior chart. :) 09/08 - Sean & Daddy took Andy to her last night of puppy preschool. She passed! ;) Afterwards, we went to FX. Sean was so excited to play with Chase. He's missed him! 09/09 - First day at the school for both kids. Sean will be going Tuesday, Thursday & Friday mornings. Evie will just be there on Thursday mornings. Sean kept his bus on the green light all day!!! (in behavior chart world, this is good!! ;). That night we went to play with Carter & Chase. 09/10 - Daddy was gone, so both kids were up at 6:15!!! Evie was hungry, Sean was crabby - ahhh great start to the morning! We were suppose to go to Aunt Val's to play with Alex & Nathan, but Sean needed a nap before he was playing with any other kids that day. Later that night we went to Chase's 5th birthday party - Happy Birthday Chase!! Grandma came over & had a sleep over with Sean after that. I had to promise them that they could still do whatever they wanted, even at my house. They're trouble together!! 09/11 - I dropped the kids off at Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry's. They hung out there with Paiger while I went to breakfast & for a mani/pedi with my small group girls. Ahhh the life!! I picked up Evie afterwards & Sean went with Aunt Mary & Scott to the cider mill. They were having a great time but it started raining, so they had to come home. We finished the night going to dinner with Grandma, Aunt Mary & Scott. Grandma had the wait staff sing happy birthday to Sean. He wasn't sure what to think about it... 09/12 - HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY TO SEAN!!! What a blessing he is to all of us. I can't believe that 4 years ago he came into our lives & NONE of us have been the same since!! He woke up yesterday & said, "Is it my birthday yet?". He was convinced that he couldn't be 4 until he blew out the candle & that he was all of a sudden bigger because he was a year older. We went to church, daddy took Sean & Chase to play putt putt, we went over to Connor's for Ella's 1st birthday party. Rory, Aiden & Liam were there too. We came home & painted rocks. Grandma, Puppa & Grandpa Jim came over to sing happy birthday to Sean. He said he didn't eat cake, so just to put his candle on a piece of cheese, but Grandma got him a cake anyway. Puppa gave him money to get an ice cream from the ice cream truck & he picked out the birthday cake ice cream sandwich. At the end of this non-stop, busy day, Sean says to me, "Where are we going today?". I said, umm, no where, it's 7:30. His reply? "But I didn't get to play with anyone. They came over to see me, but they didn't play with me."...nice. 09/13 - After work I had a meeting at church, so Sean & Evie stayed with daddy. When I called on my way home daddy said, "Well, my goal was to keep everyone alive and they're all alive!". Quite the overachiever! ;) Evie was happy to see me. She "told" me she loves Daddy, but she really missed me. Sean got put in time out for jumping on Andy's head. He says that's how he "loves" her. This is going to take some work! 09/14 - We dropped Sean off at preschool & headed to Ms. Jenny's. Evie hung out with her & Avery while I went shopping with Aunt Nicole for family picture outfits. Grandpa Jim picked Sean up from school & we met them at home. We went to Grandma & Puppa's for dinner that night. Aunt Mary was there too. Puppa & Evie walked around outside, socializing with neighbors while Grandma & Sean played on pbskids.org. 09/15 - Grandpa Jim played with both kids outside, so I could get some stuff done around the house. Evie LOVES being outside. Not sure how she's going to handle the Michigan weather that's sure to come. At night we went to church. I was so proud of Evie. When I picked her up, most of the other babies were freaking out. She was resting in a swing. :) 09/16 - The kids are with Aunt Susie & then Sean is going over Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry's. Evie & I might have dinner with Grandma & Puppa - Daddy is bowling.

Fall is in the air...

Pennsylvania was wonderful. Evie did not like driving in the car, at all. Sean was a trooper. We thought Evie would sleep at least some of the time, but other than a few 20 minute cat naps, she was awake & crabby!!! Other than the drive, they both did great though. We got Sean a froggy swim trainer & he was a little fish!! Daddy & Sean swam every day we were at the Knights Inn, some days more than once. On Saturday, 08/14, we went to the drive in & saw Despicable Me. Evie slept the whole time & Sean was thrilled that we could watch a movie outside & listen to it in our car! We visited family in Whitney & Latrobe. Sean loved playing with the kids & Evie got lots of outfits from her PA family! We shopped & had lunch in Ligonier & then we headed to Jones Mill to stay at Living Treasures Animal Park. Sean loved feeding the little goats. He was worried that they didn't get to eat enough because they were so small. Such a compassionate little boy! On Tuesday, 08/17, we went to Idlewild amusement park. We rode the Mister Roger's trolley together & Sean & Daddy went on the Log Ride. Sean said he had butterflies in his belly and then it felt like he couldn't hold onto his belly anymore. :) We headed home on Wednesday after having lunch with Sam, Tyler, Mackenzie & Hannah. We got home around 8:00. Our Andy & Grandpa Jim were waiting for us. Happy birthday to Aunt Mary!!! On Thursday, 08/19, we took Sean & Evie to Grandma Sue's to play with her & Paiger while we went golfing with Puppa & Uncle Billy. On Friday, 08/20, we had breakfast with Grandma & then got Sean's hair cut. Sean went over to Grandma's house to play for awhile, then we all went out to Armada to go to the Armada Fair. Evie & I stayed at the house because it was too hot. Sean & Daddy went with Grandma, Uncle Mike, Aunt Nicole & the kids. He got to see cows, play fair games & ride rides. They saw Aunt Val, Nathan & Alex there too. On Saturday, 08/21, we went to breakfast with Grandma & Ms. Jo. Later that afternoon, Grandma came over to play with Sean & Evie while I went to Ms. Stacy's 30th birthday party. On Sunday we went to church & tried to get everything in order from being "off" for over a week. I LOVE family vacations. I was sad to go back to reality, back to work and back to being away from daddy & the kids for any length of time. On 08/22, Grandma Sue, Grandpa Larry & Grandpa Jim came over while I went to the doctor. Sarah & her boyfriend stopped by to visit too. Sean went to see "Marmaduke" with Grandpa Jim. That evening, we went to Grandma & Puppa's for dinner. Sean & Evie got to hang out with Puppa for awhile while I made dinner. They "read" Sean's favorite book. They really just look at the pictures & make up funny stories. After dinner, Sean & Grandma played games on pbskids.org. Sean is so good at computer games!! On Wednesday, Ms. Kim, Carter & Chase came over for a visit. Carter & Sean play so good together. Grandpa Jim brought us pizza for lunch. Sean & Daddy took Andy to puppy school at night. Another cool thing that happened was that Sean brought his gospel cube to me & asked how he could go to heaven. I said, you have to believe that Jesus died on the cross for you & that he's alive today. Sean said, "I do". Then I said you have to tell him you're sorry for any poor choices you've made, that's called sin. And promise him that you'll try to make wise choices that make him happy. Sean replied, "I will". Then I said, you have to spend time with him, get to know him & tell everyone about him. Sean replied, "I will". Then he said, "I can't wait to see God's face". What a special moment with such an amazing little boy. God has big plans for him!! On Thursday, 08/26, Evie turned 3 months old and it was like a light switch turned off (or on!). She decided she wasn't a little baby anymore, so she didn't have to nap very much during the day. Instead of 2-3 hour naps through out the day, we get 20 minute naps every so often. I miss content, napping baby for long periods of time!! But, she sleeps 10-12 hours at night, so I'll take it! She's talking & smiling a lot more. Plus, she started grabbing her feet. Big girl!! Literally, big girl. Daddy weighed her & she's up to 15 lbs! This day Sean & Evie spent the morning with Grandma Sue & Paiger while Aunt Susie went to the church for a meeting. Sean went back to Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry's to spend the night. On Friday, Evie & I went to WWCS to register them for school! Evie will start in the baby room & Sean will start in the 4 year old room every Thursday morning after Labor Day. Sean went to a "state fair" at Father Murray's with Grandpa Jim, Paiger & Great Gram. That night, Daddy had a fantasy football draft and I went out to dinner, so Grandma came over to play with Sean & Evie. Sean didn't have a nap, so I thought for sure he'd go to bed early. But, Grandma was lucky ;). He stayed up to play with her until 10:30!! Yesterday we went to breakfast with Grandma. In the afternoon, me, Daddy, Sean & Evie went to visit Great Gram & see Mr. Barney play guitar & sing at Father Murray's. Last night we went to Dairy Queen with Kiara. Today was church and then dinner at Grandma & Puppa's. Plus, Grandma & Sean went to Toys R Us. They are a dangerous duo in a store like that!!! Like kids in a candy store. Or, kids in a toy store. :) Tomorrow Sean & Evie are going to Aunt Susie's then we're going to Aunt Mary's for dinner with her, Scott, Grandma & Puppa. I'm missing the lovely fall weather we had last week. Tomorrow is suppose to be 91!!!

Everybody Poops

Thanks Grandma, for today's blog title. It's no secret - when you have kids, pooping is not exactly taboo. I'm responsible for making sure Sean & Evie poop regularly. Evie's not a problem at this point, but Sean's struggling. His diet is VERY limited because he's got Jason's genes :) but I make sure he eats raisins, dried cherries & drinks lots of fluids (juice, water). This must've come up last Saturday when Grandma was over because they were talking about it. She mentioned to him that there is a book called "Everybody Poops". They even found a youtube video with a song about it. Tonight, we're stopping on the way home to get the book. Good times...

Last Saturday, me, daddy, Sean & Evie went to visit Great Gram. I was so proud of Sean. He said hi to everyone and didn't whine about being there. I'm sure visiting a nursing home is tough when you're 3, but he did great. Evie was a star too. Everyone loves seeing her there. That afternoon, Scott picked Sean up to take him to Aunt Mary's work party at CJ Barrymores. Grandma, Jackson & Mikey were there too. Sean was hesitant, but loved the go-carts and I heard he was pretty good at the claw machine too. I picked him up from there & we went to Tim & Nichole's to celebrate Caleb's 1st birthday & Jordan's 10th. Sean made me a nervous wreck playing with giant tree branches, but he had a blast! We met Grandma & Evie at our house & hung out until daddy & Puppa finished golfing. On Sunday Jason worked downstairs in the early childhood area of church. After church Sean asked if we could go get a Pet Rock (his new thing). Jason said,"I don't know. While I was taking kids to the bathroom, I heard the teacher say "Sean" a few times, so I don't think you were listening." Quickly Sean replied, "Well, maybe there's another Sean in my class." He's getting too smart for us! Before we went to get his rock, we had lunch with Grandpa Jim & Paiger. That night we gave Evie her first cereal. It was messy, but she loved it. She had been drinking 6 oz of formula each bubba that whole day. She needed sustenance!! On Monday, Aunt Mary & Bella came over work. I was hoping Bella would be a friend for Andy, but Bella wanted nothing to do with her. Andy barked & tried desperately to get her attention, but Bella only begged for food, suprise! Aunt Mary's in denial, but you don't get to be twice your recommended weight NOT overeating! ;) On Tuesday we brought Grandma lunch (and her phone which needs to be strapped to her at all times or she'll leave it places! ;). Sean got to share chicken fries with Emma, the shop dog and Evie pooped. She always poops at my work!! We met Grandpa Jim & his friend Dave at our house for a visit. Sean "sold" them his toys for monkey bucks that he printed with Grandma at her work. Late afternoon our power began to run at about 20%, so we shut everything off & went to Grandma & Puppa's for dinner. We came home & slept in the basement. Daddy & Andy slept upstairs in the sauna! :) Sean loved sleeping downstairs - it was like camping to him. Yesterday morning Evie & Sean hung out with Grandpa Jim while I ran a few errands. Evie was up most of the day. She didn't want me to hold her all the time, but she did want me by her. She'd holler if I left her view! Sean really misses his Dani girl. He tells us (and the ice cream truck lady and the DTE workers) that all the time. Poor baby, he lost his closest friend. :( Tonight Grandma & Puppa are coming over for dinner & then Sean is staying the night at Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry's. We leave for Pennsylvania tomorrow afternoon. :)

Weekly Blog Entry...

No witty title this week. Nothing seems to fit.

Last Friday Evie & Sean hung out with Grandma Sue while Grandpa Larry took me to the VA hospital downtown to see a friend. Evie was NOT suppose to poop for Grandma Sue, but she did, because she's a rebel. ;) Sean was going to stay when I came to pick up Evie, but I got a phone call shortly after I left that he "needed just one more hug". After multiple hugs & noticing that he was still emotional, we decided he should come home. Even a big boy with a busy schedule misses his mommy sometimes. :) Friday night Grandma & Puppa came over for lasagna. Sean & Grandma watched old monster songs on youtube. Thanks Grandma - I've heard "Monster Mash" a thousand times!! Saturday morning we met Aunt Mary for breakfast. Sean left with her & stayed with her & Scott until the afternoon. I knew she was running to Meijer, so I gave Sean $5 to get himself a car. Mary said, "We should get Scott a prize too.", so Sean looked at me and said, "I need another dollar to buy a prize for Scott!". We met them out at Mike & Nicole's to celebrate Mike & Livie's birthdays. Grandma was able to get a picture of ALL her grandkids. Of course they weren't all looking at the camera at the same time - maybe some day! Sunday Chase came home with us from church. Sean & Chase play great!! We brought Andy with us to take Chase home. Andy got out lots of energy chasing Duke around. Evie had a bit of a meltdown at the Mach's. Maybe she was just mad that "Mama Christie" wasn't there! ;) Tuesday was a tough day. :( I took Evie for her 2 month check up while Sean stayed with Grandpa Jim because she had to get 3 shots! Poor baby! She did great though and she's growing like a weed. She's in the 97th percentile for everything. 13 lbs, 12.5 oz, 24 1/4" - big girl!! That night Grandma & Puppa came over and after a full night & day of clear suffering we said goodbye to our Dani girl. She was a huge part of our family & the best dog we could've asked for. We miss her dearly. Grandpa Jim came to get Sean while we took Dani to urgent care & before they left Sean told me, "It's ok mumma. She's gonna go to heaven & get a new body. She'll be dancing with Jesus!". What a smart & loving little boy. :) Yesterday Daddy & I celebrated 10 years of marriage. Sean & Evie hung out with Aunt Susie while we went golfing. Last night Sean & Daddy played in the rain. It was so cool watching them dance around in the down pour. After that they took Andy to puppy preschool. Sean learned a lot because he was teaching me how to train her!! Tonight Sean's spending the night at Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry's. Me, Daddy & Evie are going to watch "The Informant". Hope she likes it... ;)

Listen the FIRST time!!!

A concept that's VERY difficult for a 3 year old!!! We're working on the importance of listening the first time with Sean. He'll say, "I'm listening now" after the 3rd or 4th time. Ugh... A work in process!! He's such a smart boy and he's very strong willed. Great qualities, but tough to parent!

Evie did great at the baseball game last week, except she doesn't like cold bubbas. A little spoiled already? She likes her Jeep sling and watched the last half of the game in it, kicking & cooing, playing with Sydney. Sean got to go to the park with Grandpa Jim & Chase, because watching a baseball game is boring. ;) On Thursday, after work, Sean went to the golf range with Daddy, Grandma & Puppa. He got to play "grown up" golf instead of putt putt; he was so excited. Friday we went to Chuck E. Cheese to celebrate Liam's birthday with the Ferrells (less Dan who is in Louisiana cleaning up the oil spill), Connor & Grandpa Jim. Evie did NOT like Chuck E. Cheese. I thought for sure the lights & sounds would make her happy. Turns out she'd much rather be home in her swing. Later that night Sean went to Grandma & Puppa's to have a sleepover. It was all fun & games until Sean woke up, ready to start his day at 5 am!! Better to have a 5 am start at Grandma & Puppa's than at home with Mommy & Daddy. :) On Saturday Daddy & Puppa were golfing in Grandpa Larry's golf outing. I brought Evie to Grandma's house & they hung out together while Sean & I went to visit Chase Michael Ancona, born 07/23. Sean did great at the hospital. He loved the new baby & played ball with Carter. Later that afternoon, Sean & Daddy went to buy some Mighty Beans (I've heard the infomercial for them at least a thousand times!) while Evie & I went to visit Ms. Kris & baby Caden (aka bachelor #1 :). Lots of boy babies born around the same time as Evie. She'll have lots of good christian men to choose from when she's 16 & allowed to start dating. ;) As most of you know, our precious Dani girl (4 yr old black lab) was diagnosed with cancer shortly after Evie came home. We decided that it was in all our best interest to look into getting a puppy before Dani gets too bad. It will help us with the grieving process & hopefully Dani will show the new puppy how to be the best dog ever before she leaves us. On Sunday we drove to a doggy foster home in Kimbull, MI where we found Andy (or Andi ;), a 3 month old lab/sharpai/pointer mix. I knew right away that she'd blend well with our family. Mostly because she didn't seem at all bothered by Sean's "affection". On Monday Evie turned 2 months. Wow - that kind of went by fast!! She's "talking" more & more every day. She started holding on to her burp cloth, so I pulled out a satin bear blanket thinking she might like to hold that while she's resting. She loves it!! We call it her baby. Aunt Susie had an event at the church on Monday, so the kids went to "Mama" Christie's house. ;) Me, Daddy, Sean, Evie, Dani & Andy went to the park that night. Probably our first and only trip to the park as a family with Dani. :( On Tuesday, Grandpa Jim took Andy & Sean to the park for awhile so I could get a few things done & Dani could rest. I swear Evie could sleep through a freight train, cause that's exactly what Sean sounds like sometimes! Tuesday night we went to Aiden's tee ball game. Sean got to go over their house afterwards to play with Aiden & Liam while me, Daddy, Evie & Andy went to Grandma & Puppas for a little bit. Yesterday, Grandpa Jim took the rowdy toddlers (Andy & Sean ;) to the park again to get out some energy. Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry came by & got to visit with Evie right after she had finished her bubba. A great time to socialize with her because her butt is clean & her belly is full!! Grandma & Puppa came over for dinner and Evie sat in the bumbo and boppy and told them lots fo stories too. Grandma brought Sean some Mighty Beans, so he was thrilled! Puppa & Sean discussed how they could move in with us and I think Grandma lost her bathtub bedroom. I think they decided she could sleep with the dogs! Sean got a kick out of that. ;) Tonight Sean is having a sleepover at Grandma Sue's & Grandpa Larry's. He really keeps a packed schedule!! Hopefully Dani, Andy & Evie sleep in until at least 7:00 tomorrow!

Save the drama for the llama, not your mama!

I say this to Evie all the time and Sean thinks it's funny. I heard him saying it to her last night. :)

Sean has become quite the social butterfly. He wants his schedule to be full all the time now. Wonder where he gets that from? ;) Thursday I dropped him off at Susie's before Grandma & I went to work. Grandpa Jim picked him up from there to hang out & Grandpa Larry & Grandma Sue picked him up after that. On Friday, Grandpa Jim picked up Connor & brought him over. On Saturday, me, Grandma, Evie & Sean went to the Boccaccio's open house because they're here visiting from Africa. Later that night, he spent the night over Grandma & Puppa's. He was way too excited to stay away from home. But, he assured me & daddy that he'd miss us & gave us hugs to remember in case we missed him too much. :) He wants to turn Great Gram's room there into his room there. On Sunday, after church, we went to Aunt Susie's with everyone to see Aunt Jill, Rachel & Claire who were visiting from Florida. Sean thought he was going home with Grandma & Puppa from there. I had to tell him that he lived at our house & had to stay at home. I didn't think he'd take to staying away from home so well!! He got a 4-pack of tooth brushes with Grandma & he told me there's one for when he stays the night at Grandma's, Grandpa Jim's, Grandma Sue's & Susie's. Sounds like he has lots of travel plans! Monday after work, me, daddy, Sean & Evie went grocery shopping. Daddy & Evie used the Jeep baby carrier that cousin Nicole gave us. It worked great! Evie passed out almost immediately in the grocery store. Last night we had a party for Paiger's birthday party & Sean went home with Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry to have a sleepover with Paige. He's still there playing with Paige now. Sean's quote of the week - "I wish to love everyone in the whole world, forever!". Sweet boy. Happy Birthday this week to Paige, Liam, Livie & Uncle Mike!!!

Evie is still sleeping, eating & growing great! She's interacting with us more & more every day & Sean asks to hold her all the time. He said he can't wait until he's 6, so he can hold her standing up. :) Evie loves sitting in her boppy, telling us "stories" and last night she sat in her bumbo for the first time. It says it's for 3 month olds or really advanced 8 week olds. ;) She doesn't like getting her nails clipped, but she grabs her face, so it must be done! On average, she's taking 5 oz per bubba. This morning she was a big hit at Father Murray's when we went to visit Great Gram. Last week, Puppa came over for dinner and he tried to play with Evie, but Sean said Puppa was his friend. He doesn't always like sharing his grandparents with her. She doesn't seem to mind as much as him...yet! I'm sure it will be an issue some day. Evie doesn't like leaving the house a lot. She'd much rather be home in her swing!

Tonight we're going to see Evan's last baseball game with the Mach's. Sean's excited. Hope Evie does well!!!

It's ok, it's so nice...

...It's just another day in paradise. Jason & I love this Phil Vassar song. It talks about how being married & having kids can be crazy sometimes, but there's no place he'd rather be. That sums up how I feel. I went back to work on Monday. I'm only working two days. Thank God my bosses approved that because I wouldn't want to be away from the kids any more than that. Sean & Evie are so awesome and we've gotten into a good routine. Never thought this mommy thing would suit me so well!!

Daddy went up north with Puppa last week, so Grandma stayed with us for 4 days. Sean was in his glory. He missed daddy & talked to him often on the phone, but he loves when Grandma stays the night. He told me that daddy & I could go up north next and he could stay with Grandma. I asked where Evie would go and he said she could go up north too. :) Grandpa Jim comes over almost every day I'm off work to do whatever Sean wants to do. Are you seeing a pattern here with Sean and his grandparents? Grandpa Jim got into a freezing cold pool last week because Sean decided he wanted to go swimming. Pools when it's cold, parks when it's a hundred degrees...whatever Sean wants!! Last Thursday he went to Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry's. They've been making Thursdays "movie night" at their house. Popcorn, salami & Toy Story. Sean likes playing with Paiger & Uncle Scott too. We also had visits from Aiden & Liam, Aunt Mary & Scott and Ms. Vicky this week. Sean's quote of the week - ‎"I can't wait until I'm grown up so I can do whatever I want, like pour the milk. I'll tell you one thing I'm not going to do though and that's eat hotter chips!". And, as I'm writing this, he said, "I really like this milk, I mean juice rather." Rather??? His vocabulary blows me away!!

Evie is chunking up!! Very few 0-3 month outfits still fit. Anything with feet she's in 3-6 or 6-9 months. She's still sleeping GREAT!! Most nights 9-10 hrs straight. Amazing! She loves her swing. If she's full and clean, but still crabbing, chances are she just wants to be in her swing. She also likes to sit in her bouncer, watch me do dishes or make dinner and listen to music. We went out to eat with both kids last week for the first time & Evie slept the whole dinner. She's been out to eat three times since and did great those times too. She likes Baby Einstein "Numbers Nursery" just like Sean did. I love when she first wakes up in the morning or from a nap. She's super smiley when anyone talks to her. She's an awesome baby. We were so worried that she'd be a handful, especially since Sean was a pretty good baby. It's hard to believe life felt so full without her. We are blessed!!

Welcome!!!

I've decided to stop posting to seanjamessoutherland.blogspot.com & open this blog to post updates on both kids. I'm so bad at updating, I know I'd never update 2 blogs!

Evie joined us on 05/26/10 at 2:47 am weighing 9lbs and measuring 22 inches - big girl!! She was delivered at Beaumont Grosse Pointe by Dr. Hall. We brought her home on 05/28/10. Some highlights - she slept for 8 hrs on Father's Day - what a great present for Daddy!! Since then, most nights she'll sleep 8-11 hrs - praise God!! Sean was 7 weeks old before he slept 7 hours straight. The first couple weeks she was eating, sleeping or crabbing - that's it! Now she's a great napper & when she's awake she does her "tai bow" exercises and she's very smiley (most of the time...we still have periods of crabbing! ;). She loves dancing with daddy while he sings her Billy Joel songs. She also LOVES baths. Her nighttime routine is bath, massage, sleeper, bubba, burbs and bed! On 06/27/10 she rolled over from her belly to her back (she's done it a few times since too). Daddy says it's cheating because he arm is under her but he must not know that 1 month is super early to be rolling over regardless. She's a strong girl!!! At her 1 month check up she was 11 lbs, 6.5 oz and 22 3/4 in. She's in the 95th percentile - developing great! She just started sticking out her bottom lip when she starts to cry. It's super pitiful & super cute! She like's her "alone" time. She'll hang out in her swing or car seat & put herself to sleep - how awesome!! She loves attention, but doesn't always like to be held.

Sean is an amazing big brother. He didn't want to kiss her at first, but he just needed some time. Now he loves on her all the time. He laughs when she cries really hard & says she sounds like the cheese curls on a Veggie Tales movie. :) He reminds me to pack diapers & formula when we go places and he dances & sings for her. He's as awesome as I thought he'd be. He got to "live" with Grandma while we were at the hospital for 3 days. They ate whatever they wanted, went to bed & woke up whenever they wanted & shopped a lot!! He wants Grandma to live with us forever. She can sleep in the tub. ;) Needless to say it took a good week or so to deprogram him. He's lived the life while I've been on maternity leave. He's had tons of visitors and play dates. Went to Chase's & Alex's, had them over, had Ethan, Connor, Liam & Carter over, etc. Most people who brought gifts for Evie brought gifts for Sean too. He's played with Grandpa Jim a lot too. They play cars or go to the park or Chuck E. Cheese or run errands. He's seen Shrek 4 & Toy Story 3 with Grandma Sue & Grandpa Larry. They saw Toy Story 2 at their house too! These are just the highlights!! He's had all or some of his grandparents over more days out of the week than not. Most Sundays we've went to Grandma & Puppa's for dinner too. I go back to work next Monday. Can't believe it's been 7 weeks already. :( Sean & Evie will hang out with Aunt Susie while I'm working. I'm thankful that I'm only working part time. I'm going to miss my babies. I'll continue to post updates here and I'll try not to wait too long between updates!!
